Meet Our Lab
Dr. Natalya Kaganovich founded the Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at Purdue in 2010. Since that time, she has lead her team of students, both graduate and undergraduate, and her research associate Jennifer Schumaker in researching how the brain integrates auditory and visual speech information and how this ability develops over time.

Director
Dr. Kaganovich received her MA and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University. She uses behavioral and electrophysiological measures in order to understand the role of audiovisual integration in language acquisition and language processing. She works with both typically developing children and children with Developmental Language Disorder. Dr. Kaganovich’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders).

Jen Schumaker is a graduate of Purdue University in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Population Genetics. She has been working as a research associate in the SLHS Department since August of 2010. Her interests include working on studies that use electrophysiological measures to understand language acquisition and development in children. In her free time, she enjoys running, collecting board games, and playing with her dogs. She also serves as Vice President of the Wolf Park Board of Directors.

Emma Gausman is a graduate student in the Speech-Language Pathology program. She is from a small town called Batesville, Indiana, and attended Purdue for her undergraduate degree. After graduation, she hopes to be a Medical SLP working with adults and focus in neurogenic disorders. Outside of her studies, she enjoys baking, running, spending time outside, and hanging out with the important people in her life.

Caroline Schueth is a junior studying Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences with minors in Psychology and Critical Disability Studies. She is from Mount Prospect, Illinois. After graduation, Caroline plans on pursuing a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. In her free time, she enjoys reading, doing yoga, and spending time with her friends and family!

Kelsey Smart is an undergraduate student at Purdue University majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Sociology. She loves working with children and has worked as a babysitter, nanny, and tutor for years. Kelsey plans on attending graduate school after graduation to pursue a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. In her free time, Kelsey loves to spend time with her friends and family!

After graduation, she wants to help understand the mechanisms of neurological disorders in children. In her free time, she enjoys painting, crocheting, and taking photos to document her life.
