Mechanistic and translational neurotoxicology
The focus of the Cannon lab is to address the most pressing public health issues related to neurotoxicology. We study how environmental exposures adversely affect the nervous system and may produce adverse neurological outcomes, including mental health disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. All of our studies are mechanistically driven, with an overarching goal to connect basic, applied, and clinical studies to achieve maximum human relevance. In identifying exposures potentially harmful to the nervous system, we hope to discover modifiable risk factors and pathogenic pathways that may serve as new therapeutic targets.
Our People
We utilize biochemical, molecular, histological, and neurobehavioral assays in cell free, cellular, and animal model systems to study the most pressing problems in neurotoxicology. Moreover, we link our findings to human studies.
