Research Training Area
Dr. Beatriz Roldan specializes in tourism development, tourism innovation, and its diffusion, with a foundational background in Hotel and Restaurant Management. During her career as a purchase and inventory manager and consultant, she identified a significant gap between the benefits of tourism and the well-being of host communities. This inspired her to focus on tourism as a tool for community empowerment. Dr. Roldan earned the prestigious Monbukagakusho Japanese scholarship, which enabled her to complete both her master's and PhD at Hokkaido University, Japan. Her research is dedicated to rural development through tourism, incorporating social innovation, behavioral change, and a resident-centered approach. Her work aims to bridge the gap between local communities and the tourism industry, promoting an equitable sharing of benefits. Dr. Roldan advocates for a two-way learning process, where industry experts and residents collaborate to foster sustainable growth and development.
