About the HHS Research Registry
- The Research Registry is a resource that simultaneously elevates the College of Health and Human Sciences’ (HHS) visibility, facilitates positive relationships between HHS researchers and participants, and accelerates research in the college’s signature research areas.
- It contains information about individuals, families, and community partners who wish to be contacted about HHS research opportunities.
- The registry is not a regulatory requirement.
- Currently, the registry is not a data repository.
Researchers who want to utilize the HHS Research Registry must have an IRB-Approved Study
- To get your study setup in the RippleScience system, please complete this survey.
- Sign the PI agreement (sent via DocuSign, link to be sent after survey link above is complete).
- Complete personal or lab-based training (a training link will be provided once your study is added to the RippleScience system).
FAQ
Q: What if my study doesn’t require consent? Do I still need to offer participants the opportunity to join the HHS research registry?
A: Yes, to help us grow the registry and to be true to its community resource model, all studies that use the Ripple Science Platform (regardless of consent requirements), should offer an opportunity to join the research registry.
Q: What if my population is specialized and I don’t want participants to join the research registry – can I still use the Ripple Science Platform?
A: Potentially yes, please reach out to us at hhsresearchregsitry@purdue.edu to learn more.
Q: Does the registry have an IRB protocol?
A: Yes, IRB-2023-192.
This is a blanket IRB and covers the sharing of registrant information with any study with an HHS PI that has an approved IRB at Purdue.
It also covers our recruitment efforts (for registrants to join the HHS Research Registry) using approved materials.
Q: Do we need to update our IRB before we can use the registry for recruiting?
A: You do not need to change anything in your IRB to share information about the registry. You can use any of the HHS RR IRB approved flyers (contact us at hhsresearchregistry@purdue.edu to request flyers) or the consent appendix. For the consent appendix you simply ask participants for their approval for you to include their information in the registry. You do not need IRB approval to add this to your current approved consent forms.
A: If you would like to receive registrant contact information from the registry, an IRB modification is needed (see link below). You will need to indicate to the IRB that you are using a known population.

Q: How do I access the registry?
A: Once your study is entered into the Ripple Science system, your team members will receive login information to access the site. You can then access any shared registrant information via the Ripple Science platform.
Facilities Blurb
We have prepared a NIH-styled facilities boilerplate that can be customized to fit your target population. HHS RR NIH Facilities Blurb Feb 2024.docx, feel free to build on it and share your improvements with us at hhsresearchregistry@purdue.edu.
Grant Letter of Support
We are happy to provide a letter of support for your next external grant that outlines how the HHS Research Registry will work to support the success of your project. Please e-mail us at hhsresearchregistry@purdue.edu to request a letter for your next grant.
To date, more than 10 research studies have contributed participant contact information to the registry and other research studies have included the consent appendix to their currently enrolling studies.
Are you ready to support this community effort as well? The Health and Human Sciences Research Registry Consent Form Appendix.docx can be added to any approved IRB research study without modification. At the end of your participant consenting process, simply ask the participant if they would like their contact information added to the HHS Research Registry – to be contacted about future research for which they may qualify. Once they approve, there are three ways you can share their information. Click this link to learn more: Sharing Registrant Information with HHS Registry – Instructions.docx
