A driven postdoctoral associate is sought to join the neurotoxicology laboratory headed by Jason Cannon, Ph.D. The lab utilizes translationally relevant approaches to discover mechanisms of environmentally induced neurodegeneration and is well funded. The successful candidate will lead one of the following directions in the lab: 1) Neuromelanin-neurotoxicant interactions as primary mechanisms of dopaminergic neurotoxicity; 2) Adverse neurological outcomes induced by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); and 3) Non-cholinergic targets of organophosphate induced neurodegeneration. In each of these projects, the successful applicant will have an opportunity to utilize comparative biology approaches as well as implement bidirectional translation, working across biological scale from primary mechanism of action through studies of human samples/subjects. The successful applicant will be strongly encouraged to develop their own ideas and seek extramural funding – F32, K99/R00, and foundation grants will be strongly supported, building upon prior success of this laboratory. Career development relative to individual future goals will be fostered to propel the candidate to scientific independence in their chosen sector. Finalists will be strongly encouraged to contact prior trainees to get a sense of the laboratory environment, expectations, and support.
Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, toxicology, or related discipline and musthave 1st author publications in well recognized neuroscience or toxicology journals. Moreover, the applicant should have documented experience in molecular biology, biochemical assays, cell culture, animal model systems, histology/experimental neuropathology, and/or neurobehavior. Experience in managing, genotyping, and phenotyping transgenic animal colonies is also ideal. No matter the prior experience, the applicant must be mechanistically driven. The applicant is expected to have outstanding interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, letter of interest describing current and future research interests, and contact information for 3 references to: cannonjr@purdue.edu. Review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. A background check is required for employment in this position. Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply
