Assistant Professor
Dr. Matthew Scarpelli is an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics within the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University. He obtained a B.S.E. degree in Nuclear Engineering and Radiologic Sciences from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin. He did his postdoctoral work at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona.
Dr. Scarpelli is an expert in applying electromagnetic radiation as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for improving human health. His seminal research contributions are ongoing and include 1) development of a theragnostic technique for targeting tumor-supporting macrophages, 2) evaluation of metal nanoparticles as tumor cell sensitizers to radiotherapy, 3) development of medical imaging approaches to assess the immune system, and 4) development of functional imaging approaches to assess tissue vasculature.
