Monte Carlo in Radiotherapy

Application of Monte Carlo in Radiotherapy Dosimetry

Monte Carlo (MC) simulation transforms radiotherapy dosimetry by accurately modeling radiation interactions within patient anatomy and treatment devices. This method’s high spatial resolution and ability to handle complex geometries enhance accuracy in dose calculations, especially for advanced techniques like IMRT and SRS. While computationally demanding, MC simulations significantly improve treatment planning precision, optimizing dose distribution and minimizing potential side effects for better patient outcomes.

We are working on using MC to model complex radiotherapy machines and investigate particle interaction with radiotherapy material.
