Who can participate?

The Child Language Research Laboratory conducts studies designed to uncover the nature of language disorders in children. To this end, we invite participation from children with language development concerns as well as children with typical language development. Together the two groups help us learn more about how language is acquired.

We offer participation in our research through the Summer Fun program and through individual sessions. Find out more about these options here What we offer

Eligibility

We determine eligibility first through a phone conversation and then with an initial testing session. Your child might be eligible if:

  • He/she speaks English as her/his first/primary language
  • You are concerned about your child’s language development
  • He/she has a diagnosis of speech-language delay (including IEP eligibility of “speech impairment” or “language impairment”)
  • Your child would not be eligible if he/she has:
  • A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • A history of neurological damage or disease
  • An intellectual disability/cognitive impairment
  • Hearing impairment

We see children with typical language development from late July through January. We do the same kind of language testing and research activities with these children, but do not provide language enrichment or speech therapy.

Eligibility

  • He/she speaks English as her/his first/primary language
  • You are NOT concerned about your child’s language development
