Year-round options

As an alternative to our Summer Fun program, we also see children individually, at any time of year – during the school year or in the summer. This program if for 4- to 5-year-old children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). It combines participation in our word-learning study with language enrichment.

Children are seen initially for 1-2 sessions of testing to determine eligibility. This includes a hearing screening and language testing. If eligible, children are seen for 5-6 more sessions.

Each session includes:

30 minutes of research activities
During research, the child will hear novel words paired with unfamiliar actions. The child will then be prompted to label a video clip using the word he/she has heard or to point to the correct video clip upon hearing the word.

30 minutes of general language enrichment activities
The language enrichment activities are centered on book-reading. Each of the sessions includes a book which is the springboard for related activities that focus on vocabulary, sentence building, and/or pre-literacy skills.

Families receive $15 per session and a written report of the results of their child’s speech, language and hearing evaluation. These one-hour sessions are scheduled at Purdue in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
