Biography
Dr. Cody Mullen is a Clinical Associate Professor and director of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) Degree program. In this role, he works closely with industry partners, faculty, and students to deliver the MHA program. Dr. Mullen is committed to ensuring graduates are prepared to make a meaningful impact with their future employer. Prior to joining Purdue, Dr. Mullen worked at the Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) as its Policy, Research, and Development Officer. With IRHA he served as a project director and evaluator with projects focusing on infant mortality, chronic disease management, and telehealth.
Dr. Mullen’s research focus surrounds the application of scientific and engineering principles and theoretical frameworks to examine trends, impact patient outcomes, and improve care coordination in the realm of health services and patient-centered outcomes research. His expertise lies in project development and execution in diverse acute care and outpatient settings, including rural, urban, and resource-constrained communities. He leads and executes a strong research portfolio as an independent investigator specifically on vulnerable populations, including physically, mentally, or cognitively disabled individuals as well as individuals living in rural communities or other health provider shortage areas. He has received doctoral training in health policy, health administration and management, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
Dr. Mullen has been active in health services research for over 10 years, working on projects ranging from infant mortality to hospital readmissions to the utilization of assistive technology by individuals with a disability. Dr. Mullen is interested and active with the Patient Centered Outcome Research Institute as an ambassador. He is active with the American Public Health Association currently serving as the co-chair of the Rural Health committee of the Medical Care Section and section chair elect for the Medical Care Section. Dr. Mullen is a past National Rural Health Association (NRHA) fellow and currently serves on their Board of Trustees and chair of the Public Health Constituency Group. Locally, Dr. Mullen is active with the Arc of Indiana, serving on the Board of Directors as its President. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Arc of Indiana Foundation and Midland Meals.
