Biography

Dr. George Hollich, is an award-winning Teacher and Researcher in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. Dr. Hollich received the University’s 2014 Charles B. Murphy Award for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence and the Class of 1922 Outstanding Innovation in Helping Students Learn Award. His published research is on child language acquisition, including how infants perceive speech, learn words and come to understand the meaning of grammar. Dr. Hollich was the recipient of the 2006 International Society on Infant Studies Distinguished Early Career Contribution Award and the 2007 Boyd McCandless Award given by Division 7 of APA to recognize “a young scientist who has made a distinguished contribution to the dissemination of developmental science.

Dr. Hollich has established an international reputation innovating new methods for developmental research on learning: drawing from fields as diverse as epigenetic robotics and dynamic systems theory to examine the connection between early language development and later academic skills such as reading, math, and psychology education. Most recently, Dr. Hollich has taken his expertise on developmental learning and focused on improving the educational experience (and Psychological Fitness) of students at Purdue. Dr. Hollich has additionally been involved in the scholarship of learning, examining the effectiveness of hybrid and online courses, and has been researching ways to support and engage students during the shifting landscape of teaching necessitated by the COVID crisis.
