Biography
Dr. Gallegos is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) with 23 years of diverse nursing experience spanning clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. His clinical background includes medical-surgical nursing, labor and delivery, stroke care, diabetes management, nursing leadership and management, family practice, general urology, and men’s health. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Urologic Nurses and Associates, reflecting his commitment to advancing practice in urologic and men’s health care.
Dr. Gallegos holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology from Purdue University – West Lafayette, a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner from Indiana State University, and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Arizona, where his research focused on understanding the mechanisms for the prevention and treatment of biological injury. He also earned an MBA with a focus on Physicians and Healthcare Executives from Touro University Worldwide.
His current research centers on the health and wellness of male firefighters, with a particular focus on improving outcomes related to occupational stress, physical fitness, and preventative health behaviors. As part of his scholarly work, Dr. Gallegos developed a theory addressing the multidimensional influences on male firefighter wellness, which integrates biological, psychological, occupational, and environmental factors to guide both clinical practice and future research.
Dr. Gallegos served eight years of active duty as a United States Air Force (USAF) Nurse and Officer, completing several stateside and overseas assignments, including a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received an honorable discharge in 2010, having been awarded multiple service ribbons and medals in recognition of his dedication and service.
