Biography
Dr. Julian L. Gallegos is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) with 24+ years of diverse nursing experience spanning clinical practice, leadership, education, and research. His clinical background includes medical-surgical nursing, labor and delivery, stroke care, diabetes management, nursing leadership and management, family practice, general urology, and men’s health. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Urologic Nurses and Associates, reflecting his commitment to advancing urologic and men’s health care.
Dr. Gallegos is the founder of the American Men’s Health Nursing Alliance (AMHNA) and was the architect of the idea that men’s health should be formally recognized as a distinct nursing specialty. Under his leadership, AMHNA mobilized a national, nurse-led effort that culminated in the profession’s historic recognition of Men’s Health Nursing as an official specialty, an enduring milestone that strengthens the infrastructure for education, standards, workforce development, and health equity-focused practice.
His program of research advances men’s health by developing, testing, and scaling masculinity-informed, nurse-led interventions that improve engagement in preventive and behavioral health care. A major focus is the health and wellness of male firefighters, integrating occupational stress, physical fitness, and preventive health behaviors while generating actionable evidence that can be translated into clinical practice, workforce readiness, and community health impact. He also serves his community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Tippecanoe Township Volunteer Fire Department, informing his scholarship with real-world experience in the fire service.
Dr. Gallegos served eight years of active duty as a United States Air Force Nurse and Officer, completing multiple stateside and overseas assignments, including a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received an honorable discharge in 2010 and was awarded multiple service ribbons and medals in recognition of his service.
