Biography
Dr. Buhman is a professor in the Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University. She earned a BS in Biochemistry from Iowa State University and a PhD in Nutrition from Purdue University. She completed post-doctoral studies at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in San Francisco, CA and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. At Purdue, Dr. Buhman recently served as Interim Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health and Human Sciences (2021-2022), Associate Department Head (2019-2021), and Director of the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Nutrition (INP) (2018-2021). Dr. Buhman’s research focuses on lipid metabolism with specific interests in understanding the molecular mechanisms of dietary fat absorption and dysregulation of lipid metabolism in cancer. She has authored over 60 research and review articles on these topics. The American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, United States Department of Agriculture, and the National Institutes of Health have supported her work. Dr. Buhman received the E.L.R. Stokstad Award for outstanding fundamental research in nutrition from the American Society for Nutrition, the 2022 Provost’s Award for Outstanding Graduate Mentoring at Purdue University and is a member of the Purdue University Teaching Academy which honors and develops Purdue’s best teachers.
