Biography
Dr. Lorraine V. Stigar is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Experiential Learning in the Department of Public Health at Purdue University. They earned their Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Public Health Leadership from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) where their research focused on health education, equity and inclusion, and access to LGBTQIA+ affirming care. Dr. Stigar’s current work seeks to improve the health of LGBTQIA+ populations through their research with the Center for Rural and Migrant Health and Sexual Health Research lab at Purdue University.
Dr. Stigar’s role as a Public Health Practitioner is to focus on the next generation through encouraging students to pursue their passions and interests, which is why they have devoted much of their time at the Center and Lab to mentoring and creating positive relationships with students. Dr. Stigar has over 10 years of experience in public health practice and mixed-methods research with a little over 5 years dedicated to student engagement across multiple states. Through their work they have developed multiple programs aimed at fostering community partnerships, civic engagement, and community service among students, staff, and faculty, as well as local and regional stakeholders. Through their research and practice Dr. Stigar aims to develop and implement inclusive and comprehensive sexual health education and professional development of LGBTQIA+ affirming practices for community members and healthcare service providers.
