Biography
Shannon Cook is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Purdue University School of Nursing, where she teaches courses in public health and fundamentals of nursing and supports lab and simulation-based education. She is a dual-trained in Family and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in oncology, emergency/trauma, forensic nursing, and community health.
Her professional background includes serving as a nurse practitioner in medical oncology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., Regional Quality Lead with CVS Health, and providing in-home assessments for at-risk populations in Indianapolis. While at CVS Health during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to caring for patients in downtown Indianapolis clinics, she managed the roll out and operations of COVID-19 testing in multiple states across the United States.
Her research interests focus on rebuilding trust in science and healthcare, health policy and healthcare reform, and improving access to care. Other interests include cancer prevention, nursing workforce issues, violence prevention and patient screening, and the role of simulation and AI in nursing education.
Cook earned her MSN and BSN from the University of Indianapolis and is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses in Indiana (CAPNI). She is committed to advancing nursing education and improving patient outcomes through teaching, research, and community engagement.
