Biography
Dr. Shinyong (Shawn) Jung joined the White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management faculty as an Assistant Professor in August 2020. With 10 years of global experience in the hospitality and events industry, he has held positions at Shepard Exposition Services, the UNLV Student Union and Event Services, Midas Convention Service, and the COEX Intercontinental Hotel. Prior to joining Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor of Event Management at Metropolitan State University of Denver, where he taught courses in meetings and events management.
Dr. Jung’s research focuses on event experience design and management, event tourism sustainability, and the integration of technology in these areas. He has published articles in leading academic journals in hospitality, tourism, and event studies, including Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, and Journal of Convention and Event Tourism. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Convention and Event Tourism and as an editorial board member for the Event Management Journal.
