Biography

Dr. Shinyong (Shawn) Jung joined the White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management faculty as an Assistant Professor in August 2020. With 10 years of global experience in the services and events industry, he has held positions at Shepard Exposition Services, the UNLV Student Union and Event Services, Midas Convention Service, and the COEX Intercontinental Hotel. Prior to joining Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor of Event Management at Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2017 to 2020, where he taught courses in meetings and events management.

Dr. Jung’s research focuses on event experience design, business events, event tourism sustainability, and the integration of technology in these areas. He has published articles in leading academic journals across hospitality, tourism, and event studies, including the Journal of Travel Research, the Tourism Management, the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, and the Journal of Convention and Event Tourism. He currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Convention and Event Tourism and the Event Management Journal.
