Faculty Workshop: Navigating Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Funding
April 15, 2026
12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Virtual | Zoom
The workshop will provide a practical overview of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, which are key federal mechanisms for moving research innovations toward real-world application and commercialization. The workshop will focus on Phase I and Phase II fundamentals, proposal development strategies and available resources to support investigators exploring these pathways — including support through the Indiana Applied Research Institute (ARI).
The workshop will be led by Lisa Sproul Hoverman, Ph.D., founder of Healthcare, Scientific, and Medical Communications (HSMC). Hoverman is a nationally recognized expert in federal grant and proposal development, with extensive experience in helping to secure over $12 billion in funding across agencies such as NIH, NSF and DOD. She brings a unique perspective to translating complex scientific ideas into compelling, fundable proposals.
This event is well-suited for faculty who are new to SBIR/STTR or are considering how to translate their research beyond the academic setting. No prior experience with these programs is required.
