Networking with the Culture
Feb. 12, 2025
3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
HHS Connex Hub, Stone Hall, room 122
“Networking with the culture” means actively engaging with people from a particular community or background to build relationships and connections, often with the goal of understanding their customs, perspectives and experiences, going beyond just professional networking to incorporate a deeper cultural understanding.
During this event, presenter Desmine Robinson will use storytelling, guided questions and networking practices prominent in his culture to help students learn relationship-building skills and a greater appreciation of their own culture. Students will also identify ways they can utilize their culture in job interviews, conferences, in the classroom and various professional settings.
The presentation will also discuss ways to witness others practicing networking in the workplace and how to be a respectful witness of others using their culture. Attendees will participate in self-reflective questions that lead to a greater appreciation for cultural differences and similarities in the workplace.
Registration is requested but not required.
This event is in partnership with the Purdue University Black Student Union.
