Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who work to identify, prevent, treat and rehabilitate emergency, acute or chronic illness and injuries. The Purdue University Athletic Training Program is a cooperative educational program housed in the Department of Health and Kinesiology with support from the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Division of Recreational Sports and the Purdue University Student Health Center. Starting fall 2022, in accordance with the Athletic Training Strategic Alliance’s new guidelines, the professional athletic training program will be transitioning from a bachelor’s degree program to a master’s degree program.
Purdue University’s athletic training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Program Highlights
- The program prepares students as athletic trainers through an extensive curriculum of didactic and clinical experiences as set forth in the CAATE “Standards for the Accreditation of Entry-Level Athletic Training Programs.”
- The program consists of academic coursework offered by the Department of Health and Kinesiology and clinical education experiences with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Division of Recreational Sports, Purdue University Student Health Center and several off-campus sites.
- By successfully completing this program, students will have the knowledge base necessary to sit for and pass the BOC Certification Examination.
