Biography

Dr. Saito-Diaz is an Assistant Research Professor in the laboratory of Dr. Aaron Bowman. He received his Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology from Vanderbilt University. He completed his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Nadja Zeltner at the University of Georgia, where he studied the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving the development of the peripheral nervous system using human pluripotent stem cells. His current research focuses on elucidating how environmental metal exposure affects the development and function of peripheral sensory and autonomic neurons. Using a multidisciplinary approach, his research seeks to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying metal-induced neuronal dysfunction. His long-term goal is to advance our understanding of peripheral neuron biology and identify new approaches for preventing and treating developmental and degenerative diseases affecting the peripheral nervous system.
