Biography

Margo J. Monteith (Ph.D. in Social Psychology, 1991, University of Wisconsin) is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University. She also serves as Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue. Her research interests include stereotyping and prejudice (particularly involving implicit biases and prejudice reduction strategies), inequality and discrimination, and fostering positive intergroup relations and inclusion. Dr. Monteith has published widely on these topics, including a 2019 book entitled, “Confronting prejudice and discrimination: The science of changing minds and behaviors.” Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation, and internal funding mechanisms. Dr. Monteith has been elected to a variety of leadership roles, including President of the Midwestern Psychological Association. She is current Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Social Psychological and Personality Science, and has served as Associate Editor for several other journals. Dr. Monteith received the Research Career Achievement Award from Purdue’s College of Health and Human Sciences in 2019, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues in 2020. Dr. Monteith is an elected fellow of a variety of professional organizations, including the American Psychological Society and the Society of Personality and Social Psychology.
