Biography
Sang Eun Woo is a Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University, where she serves as Chair and Director of the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence. Her research explores how personality and motivation shape work attitudes, withdrawal behaviors (e.g., turnover), and interpersonal dynamics (e.g., networking, mentoring). She is recognized for her expertise in psychological measurement and construct validation, which she views as foundational to rigorous psychological science. Sang is also known for pushing theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary boundaries of organizational science. Her overall research program is driven by a desire to understand, harness, and cultivate openness in academia and beyond: openness to new ideas and experiences, to people with different perspectives and cultural backgrounds, to life lessons and opportunities for growth, and to novel and underutilized methods in psychological science.
A Fellow of SIOP, APS, and APA, Sang is dedicated to translating science into practical solutions and mentoring the next generation of psychologists. Throughout her career, Sang has worked closely with people at Purdue (students, staff, faculty, and administrators) as well as with the broader community of scientists, practitioners, and community partners to build a vibrant network that supports human flourishing at scale.
