Integrative Health Program (IHP)

Interdisciplinary PhD | College of Health and Human Sciences

The College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) is launching a new Integrative Health Program (IHP) in 2026. IHP is meant to be an immersive, interdisciplinary experience designed to empower students to lead the charge in solving some of the world’s most pressing health-related challenges. IHP students will be part of both a partnering academic department and a vibrant, collaborative interdisciplinary community of experts from diverse fields. This unique integration of disciplines not only broadens the scope of education but also deepens understanding, allowing students to approach health issues from multiple perspectives and create impactful, real-world solutions.

The program will have two pathway components: one modeled after the Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Program (PULSe) and the other modeled after the Computational Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (CIGP), both of which are administered by the Office of Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (OIGP).  In the first pathway, students are admitted to the IHP program directly but eventually graduate from the associated graduate department of the major professor. In the second pathway, the IHP reviews and admits students, but students must already be admitted by a department/school. HHS will begin by launching the second pathway in 2026.

Program Highlights

  • The IHP offers an integrated approach, inviting collaboration with faculty from a variety of departments at Purdue with educational and research areas related to health.
  • Students will have the opportunity to learn fundamental scientific knowledge in their home academic unit while also engaging in health-related courses and research from other programs.
  • Unique seminars and symposia focusing on the latest topics and research will be offered to — and also organized by — program students.
  • Students completing the program will earn a concentration in integrated health, which uniquely prepares students to pursue a wide range of careers.

The program is open to exceptional and motivated PhD students with interests in health-related disciplines. Students will have access to innovative curriculums and diverse research opportunities that span multiple health disciplines, as well as world-class facilities and resources.
