Students in the Department of Nutrition Science (NUTR) may pursue a double major in a variety of topics. Any of the NUTR majors can be paired together for a double major. The most common double major is dietetics/nutrition, fitness, and health (DNFH), and you can apply directly to this double major in your application to Purdue University.

For all other double majors, a second major can be added during Student Transition Advising and Registration (STAR) in the summer before your first year or anytime thereafter. If you choose to add a second major, it is critical to do so as early as possible for course planning.

Dietetics and Nutrition, Fitness, and Health

  • This unique and historically popular double major allows you to fulfill the undergraduate didactic requirements for becoming a registered dietitian nutritionist while gaining a comprehensive approach to human health and fitness. The double major is 127-135 credits and can be completed in 4 years.

Nutrition and Dietetics and Nutrition Science

  • The combined nutrition and dietetics and nutrition science major allows you to fulfill the science requirements for most graduate or professional schools, including medicine, dentistry, physician assistant or physical therapy programs. You may also choose to obtain a position in research.
