Biography
Dr. Laura M. Moffat, DNP, APRN, AGCNS-BC, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Purdue University, where she teaches undergraduate medical–surgical nursing and contributes to curriculum development and instructional innovation. She is an adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist by training, with a background in acute and complex care, and brings a strong practice perspective to didactic nursing education.
Dr. Moffat’s teaching focuses on helping students integrate complex theoretical content, develop clinical judgment, and prepare for professional nursing practice. In recent years, her work has expanded to include the intentional integration of instructional technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into nursing education. She has implemented faculty-guided approaches to AI use within didactic courses that emphasize structured support for learning, exam preparation, and synthesis of course content. Her course-based evaluations have demonstrated improvements in student confidence in using AI tools and in the transfer of AI-supported learning strategies across nursing courses. She has also presented on artificial intelligence in advanced practice nursing, focusing on what APRNs need to know about AI, how it may benefit clinical practice, and practical ways to get started.
In addition to her work in nursing education, Dr. Moffat is involved in interdisciplinary and international academic initiatives in artificial intelligence and data science. She contributes to curriculum development for graduate programs in artificial intelligence and data science, serves on curriculum committees for these programs, and is involved in developing an international dual-degree program in applied AI. She also has interdisciplinary research experience in applied machine learning and predictive analytics in healthcare and has presented this work at regional and national conferences.
