Dr. Closser's research as a learning scientist intersects cognitive, developmental, and educational psychology as they relate to emerging educational technologies. She builds off theories of embodiment and perceptual learning to investigate how individuals think and learn by studying problem-solving performance and learning, particularly in authentic online learning environments. She aims to inform the design of materials and scaffolding in open-access educational technologies to increase students’ engagement and learning in math.
