Biography

Dr. Matthew Scarpelli is an Assistant Professor of Medical Physics within the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University. He obtained a B.S.E. degree in Nuclear Engineering and Radiologic Sciences from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin. He did his postdoctoral work at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix Arizona.

Research Interests

Dr. Scarpelli’s lab develops new diagnostic and therapeutic tools to treat disease using electromagnetic radiation. Of specific interest is the following:
• Investigating the role of the immune system in the biological response to radiation
• Mechanisms underlying radiotherapy induced abscopal effect
• Developing molecular imaging approaches to assess the immune system
• Developing functional imaging approaches to assess tissue perfusion
