Does the department have a separate application from the University?
No. The application submitted via the Graduate School on-line application system “SLATE”, is the only application needed.
Do I need to take the Psychology subject test of the GRE?
No. Our Department does not require the Psychology subject test.
Is the GRE General Test required for admission consideration?
The GRE General Test is required for admission to the following Ph.D. programs:
- Industrial-Organizational Psychology
- Mathematical and Computational Psychology
The GRE General Test is optional for admission to the following Ph.D. programs:
- Clinical Psychological Sciences
- Cognitive Psychology
- Social Psychology
The GRE General Test is not required for admission to the following Ph.D. program:
- Neuroscience and Behavior
What is Purdue’s institution code and the Psychology department code for the reporting GRE and TOEFL scores?
- Purdue’s institution code is 1631
- Psychological Sciences’ general psychology code is 2016
What is the deadline for having my file completed?
December 1, 2023 (for Fall 2024 enrollment)
Can the application fee be waived?
Application fee waivers are considered by our Graduate School for applicants applying through a specific recruitment program, as outlined here.
Applicants may also request a fee waiver, due to financial hardship, by submitting an email to our Graduate School at: gradinfo@purdue.edu.
How much is the application fee and where do I send it?
The application fee is $60.00 for domestic applicants and $75.00 for international applicants. and must be submitted through the on-line application.
What should I select for the “Enrollment Objective” on the on-line application?
We do not offer a terminal master’s degree program. Therefore, you must choose “Doctoral Degree” as your enrollment objective.
What are my program options?
You must select one of the following graduate majors. If you are interested in more than one program, you may apply for up to three.
- Clinical Psychological Sciences
- Cognitive Psychology
- Industrial-Organizational Psychology
- Mathematical and Computational Psychology
- Neuroscience and Behavior
- Social Psychology
Must I choose a professor to serve as my faculty mentor?
Yes, you must list one or more program faculty on your application.
How do I know which faculty are admitting new students?
A list of faculty who are recruiting students is listed on each of our program pages under the “Admissions/Requirements” section.
Do I need to apply to be considered for one of the fellowships offered through the Graduate School?
No. You will automatically be considered for any fellowships for which you qualify.
How do my recommenders access the on-line recommendation form?
Once you complete the recommendation section of your application, your recommenders will automatically be sent an E-mail notice asking for their recommendation and directing them to the on-line recommendation form.
Must I wait until I submit my on-line application before having my test scores sent to Purdue?
No, please have your GRE or TOEFL scores sent to the department as soon as possible. Once your application is received the Graduate School will add them to your application.
Do I need to apply for assistantship funding?
No, if admitted, you will automatically be considered for assistantship funding, which will be offered simultaneously with your offer of admission.
What type of transcripts are needed and how are they to be sent?
For application purposes, you may upload a student copy of your transcripts to your online application. Official transcripts need not be sent until after you have been admitted. Please note, however, that the transcripts uploaded to your application, must be an institutional copy, and not those that are accessed through your student portal.
I am an international student whose native language is not English. What are my English Proficiency requirements for admission?
