Biography

Yadira Santiago Banuelos is a 3x Purdue Alum, she is a clinical assistant professor and director of the FNP Program at the School of Nursing and also practices at our Purdue NCNC Clinics (Monon) where she primarily sees women’s health and prenatal patients, which aligns with her current passion and current research. Yadira has a strong passion with working with underserved populations, maternal health and improving maternal outcomes in Indiana.

Because of her passion for providing care to the Hispanic population and for women’s health, Dr. Santiago has focused her practice on women’s health within the Monon site. Providing bilingual care to this largely Spanish-speaking community, has exponentially increased access to women’s health and prenatal care in the patients native language. In her efforts to offer these much-needed services, she identified a need to improve and increase prenatal care attendance by expectant mothers. In 2022, she created and implemented a prenatal education toolkit at two NCNC locations and improved patient prenatal care adequacy from 40.2% to 75.6%

Yadira currently serves on the Indiana Maternal Health Task Force as well as sits on the board as Provider Liaison for our Postpartum Support International Indiana Chapter. She is consistently trying to increase availability or resources for her patients and is currently obtaining her perinatal mental health certificate (PMHC).

Her research interests include maternal mental health and maternal health, health equity, breastfeeding, and nursing education.
