Biography

Dr. Shinyong (Shawn) Jung joined the White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management faculty as an Assistant Professor in August 2020. With 10 years of global experience in the services and events industry, he has held positions at Shepard Exposition Services, the UNLV Student Union and Event Services, Midas Convention Service, and the COEX Intercontinental Hotel. Prior to joining Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor of Event Management at Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2017 to 2020, where he taught major courses in the field.

Dr. Jung’s research focuses on event design and management, sustainable event tourism, and the application of technology in these fields. He has published articles in leading academic journals across hospitality, tourism, and event studies, including Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Journal of Convention and Event Tourism, and Event Management Journal. He currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Convention and Event Tourism.
